Devin Haney’s upcoming battle, a defence of his undisputed lightweight championship from Vasiliy Lomachenko, is “essentially built,” promoter Bob Arum tells Sky Athletics.

In a superlative 2022, unbeaten American star Haney has two times defeated George Kambosos in Australia, unifying all 4 of the main lightweight titles in their very first bout then defending his undisputed crown.

“There are a large amount of superior younger fighters,” Arum mentioned. “All definitely good lightweights. The lightweight division is alive and perfectly.”

Haney although is major for the body weight and he is expected to move up to 140lbs just after his bout with Lomachenko.

Arum thinks he could go straight into a super-lightweight struggle with Teofimo Lopez, the man who famously upset Lomachenko in 2020.

“Regis Prograis is a possibility [for Lopez]. There are other opportunities for Teofimo. Just one of the matters is for him to just take one more battle and, if Haney beats Lomachenko, have Haney battle Teofimo in a non-title battle. That would be a big combat. So there are a lot of means to go with these fellas,” Arum defined.

With Tyson Fury close to finalising his heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk, Top Rank are previously concerned in an additional big undisputed title battle that is in the system of remaining established for following year.
