MOSCOW, Dec 31 — President Vladimir Putin explained in his New Year’s handle Saturday that “moral, historical rightness” is on Russia’s facet as his state faces global condemnation for its offensive in Ukraine.
As Russian locations in the Far East rung in the New Year, the Russian leader shipped his standard midnight handle standing amid troopers who fought in Ukraine, in accordance to Russian information agencies.
Putin reported in remarks carried by information agencies that this calendar year was marked by “truly pivotal, fateful events” which turned “the frontier that lays the basis for our common upcoming, for our legitimate independence”.
“Today we are combating for this, protecting our people in our own historical territories, in the new constituent entities of the Russian Federation,” he added, referring to Ukrainian locations that Russia claimed to have annexed.
“Moral, historic rightness is on our facet,” he explained.
The Russian leader also said that “a true sanctions war was declared on us” following the world’s best democracies slapped Moscow with a barrage of sanctions in response to armed service motion in Ukraine.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin sent his New Year’s speech from the headquarters of Russia’s southern armed service district, where he was on a visit earlier on Saturday and introduced awards to servicemen.
Among the recipients of the awards was Russia’s commander in Ukraine, Common Sergei Surovikin, Russian information organizations mentioned.
Footage proven on Russian state Television set showed Putin boosting a glass of champagne with troopers — equally adult men and women — dressed in armed forces uniform.
